Peak District Open-Top Bus Tour
Explore the Peak District by bus
The Peak District now offers an open-top bus tour to visit some of the wonderful towns and locations across the countryside. What better way is there to explore the stunning scenery on offer across Derbyshire? The unique open-top experience will provide travellers with great views of the national park’s hills, gritstone edges and during late-summer, heather-coated moorlands. The service will follow a loop through several Peak District tourist highlights.
Each day from July to September the open-top tours will run from Chatsworth House and follow a route through Baslow, Calver, Bakewell, Ashford in the Water and return to Chatsworth. The tours offer a perfect way to see the sights and landscapes across parts of the Peak District National Park, following a regular timetable. And from October to December, the tours will run at weekends.
During the route, you can hop on and off to spend time exploring different locations. Stop off to sample one of the famous Bakewell Puddings, take a walk along the Monsal Trail from Hassop station, visit the Chatsworth Farm Shop from Pilsey and finish off at Chatsworth House.
A day ticket for the tour will cost £6 per person and is a great way to be driven around and not have to think about parking while enjoying the outdoors from the comfort of your bus seat. Each day’s tour will start just before 10 am and end just after 6 pm. The Stagecoach website has details of the services and a range of other information.
Car-free travel
If you want to have a completely car-free option you can travel from Matlock to Chatsworth on the bus. Trans Peak, the Sixes (6.1) and 160 all run services to connect to the sightseeing tour stop at Chatsworth House. And if travelling from Matlock by bus until the end of November 2024 there are capped fares on single bus tickets, making a day out by bus even better value. Up until the 31st October single fares are capped at £2 per person and from November 2023 until the end of November 2024 at £2.50 per person for each single journey.
Group tickets to save money
For guests staying with us Glendon Bed and Breakfast we also offer discounted adult tickets for a visit to Chatsworth House. A visit to Chatsworth and the Peak District sightseeing tour would be a great way to spend the day. And if you show your valid Chatsworth ticket to the driver it is possible for a group of up to 5 people to travel for £10. If you are not visiting Chatsworth the group ticket is also available at £15 for up to 5 people.
Save the environment by travelling by bus
As well as offering good value and a great day out every car journey replaced by a bus journey makes a difference to the environment. The average level of carbon dioxide emitted for every bus journey can be nearly half the amount for an equivalent car journey. The service also offers the potential to reduce the number of car journeys across the Peak District.
