We are thrilled to share some exciting news with our guests and fellow nature enthusiasts: BBC’s Springwatch is celebrating its 20th anniversary by broadcasting live from the National Trust’s Longshaw Estate, right here in the beautiful Peak District. Even better, it’s just a short, scenic drive from Glendon Bed and Breakfast in Matlock.

This marks the very first time the popular wildlife programme has been filmed in Derbyshire, and it’s an incredible opportunity to showcase the region’s rich and varied natural beauty. Whether you’re a passionate wildlife watcher or simply enjoy the peace of nature, Springwatch 2025 promises a memorable experience.

A Wildlife Spectacle in the Peak District

Running from May 26 to June 12, 2025, Springwatch will broadcast live on BBC Two, Monday to Thursday at 8 PM. Hosted by Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan, this special anniversary series will bring the wonders of British wildlife to screens nationwide, directly from the heart of the Peak District.

The Longshaw Estate is an ideal location, with its diverse landscape of moorlands, woodlands, and meadows. The estate is home to a wide variety of species, many of which will be featured in the programme. Expect sightings of ring ouzels, whinchats, curlews, dippers, and the elusive woodcock. There’s also a chance to spot badgers, foxes, and eight species of roosting bats. This year’s Springwatch will also introduce audiences to species and habitats never before captured live on the show’s cameras.

Wildlife Wonders of the Peak District

The excitement doesn’t stop at Longshaw. The Peak District National Park is one of the UK’s most treasured landscapes for wildlife. With its blend of high moors, deep dales, ancient woodland, and rivers, the region supports an astonishing range of animals and plants.

In the upland areas, red grouse, mountain hares, and peregrine falcons thrive. The limestone dales are rich in wildflowers and home to rare butterflies and water voles. Ancient oak woods echo with the calls of woodpeckers and tawny owls, and you may even catch a glimpse of fallow deer in the early morning mist.

The changing seasons bring new highlights—from the arrival of swallows in spring to the rutting stags of autumn. Whether you’re walking one of the many hiking trails or sitting quietly with a pair of binoculars, there is always something to see.
