This year sees the return of the Haddon Hall Mercatum Christmas Artisan Market and the Chatsworth Christmas markets.

Each year the Christmas markets offer a range of produce, crafts and gifts from many local producers and artists. They are an ideal place to find gifts that are both unique and with local connections. And both are set in magical surroundings.

Haddon Hall at Christmas

The Haddon Hall Christmas market is set throughout the hall. The stalls are located throughout many of the wonderful rooms of Haddon Hall. There is something quite magical about the setting and one that is hard to beat. Artists, photographers, jewellery makers, food products to Christmas ornaments, there is a wonderful array of items available throughout the varied stalls.
For 2022 the Haddon Hall market takes place on the following dates:

• 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th November
• 24th, 25th, 26th and 27th November
• 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th December

Visit the Chatsworth Christmas market

The Chatsworth Christmas market takes place against the backdrop of the House. Again, there are stalls from a range of local artists as well as more traditional Christmas offerings. The Chatsworth market runs daily from 5th to 23rd December.

As well as a visit to the market, Chatsworth House is decorated for Christmas and is an ideal time to see the festively decorated house and visit the market. The house is decorated for Christmas and open to visitors from the 5th November.

The markets do tend to be busy but are often quieter on weekdays.

Visit Chatsworth House with its new Christmas theme

Once the market has finished, visit Chatsworth House with remains open up to Christmas for visitors to enjoy the house. Each year there is a different theme for the Christmas decorations. Bookings need to be made in advance for visiting the house whilst decorated for the festive season. During the year we offer discounted tickets to visit the house but are not able to do this over the festive period as a timed slot needs to be booked.

Haddon Hall dressed for Christmas

Haddon Hall also welcomes guests to the house to enjoy the festive decorations from the 5th December. On some days there is also a festive choir. The magical medieval style of Haddon combined with the festive season makes it a real Jem to visit at Christmas. Christmas lunch is also served in the Haddon restaurant. This is always popular so advance booking is definitely recommended.

Ideas for eating out after a Christmas visit

Earlier this year Chatsworth was voted the most picture-perfect picnic spot in the UK. So if you are feeling adventurous you could enjoy a winter picnic in Chatsworth park from some of the great food on offer. Alternatively, if you are looking for something potentially warmer, both Haddon Hall and Chatsworth offer onsite restaurants.

Halfway between Chatsworth and Haddon is Peak Village, which also offers indoor eating options, including the newly opened Chatsworth Kitchen offering a range of food with many of the ingredients sourced from the Chatsworth estate.
