When will Bed and Breakfasts and hotels reopen?

1, Mar 2021 | Derbyshire, Glendon, Peak District

Looking forward to a break after Lockdown

Having a path to the gradual relaxation of social restrictions is really positive news. The idea of being able spend a few days away with different scenery is something so many people are looking forward to. Many of the bookings we have received are form guests who have stayed at Glendon before and we and they tell us how excited they are to be able to enjoy a few days away.

We have also had enquiries from people who are wanting to stay away but not quite sure what is allowed, and when things will open. So, we thought it would be helpful to write something about this, like all plans they may change, and the government updates you can find them here. Each country of the UK has its own rules and regulations. What is here relates to England.

When can I take a break in England?

The first opportunity to stay at a bed and breakfast or hotel in England is from the 17th May and we are taking bookings now for stays form this onwards. From this date you can book either one room, or it is possible to visit with up to 6 people from different homes. Therefore, we are happy to take bookings for stays from the 17th May up to the 20th June for up to three rooms for the same group.

As previously we keep all the regulations under close review and act as necessary to minimise risk as much as possible. And from the 21st of June the plan is to ease all social restrictions and for remaining businesses, such as night clubs, to open. We keep this under constant review.

Will pubs and restaurants be open?

From the 17th of May restaurants and bars can reopen for guests to eat and drink inside. All food and drink must be served at tables. And just as in other indoor venues there are limits of 6 people or two households. And again, from the 21st of June all restrictions on group sizes are removed.

Restrictions similar to this were in place last summer and worked well in Matlock. We provide a list of restaurants in Matlock and an advance reservation will help manage this. As well as the range of restaurants the park is great to enjoy take-away fish and chips.

When do tourist attractions reopen?

Now the saying the best things in life are free, does not always hold true. However, our best attraction in Derbyshire and the Peak District is the great outdoors and it is free. There are some truly wonderful routes for walking and cycling. And if you are wanting to take advantage of this, we provide secure cycle storage.

There are many visitor attractions in Derbyshire and further afield. From May 17th most tourist attractions can reopen. This includes museums, galleries, model villages, theme parks, stately homes. We would always recommend checking relevant websites in advance in case of pre-booking or other requirements.

What happens to my booking if the COVID restriction dates change?

This will of course differ from place to place. However, all accommodation owners have had to work with restrictions over the past year and it is likely that they have accounted for this. For example, at Glendon, we have amended our terms and conditions to offer reassurance to guests. A search of the website of any hospitality business should give you the information you need to help make a decision about your booking a stay away.

Is not possible for any of us to know exactly what will happen. What we do have though is a comparison to last summer. Both our self-catering property and Bed and Breakfast property operated throughout the year. Yes, we did make some changes but by and large it was a summer like any other.

As we move into Spring there is much to be positive about. A bed and breakfast without guests ia quiet place so we can’t wait to reopen. And it will be great to have the smell of lemon drizzle or other treats baking, ready to welcome our guests. 2021 is an ideal time to enjoy a staycation, and if you are tempted by a visit to Derbyshire, it would be lovely to welcome you to stay at Glendon.
