My four-night break in July 2021 evolved from a cancelled booking last June due to Covid restraints. Originally, I was to shared The Glendon experience with a friend from New York – we had planned to base ourselves at this boutique guest house whilst we looked at historic gardens and church monuments in The Peak District.
Adrian and Damien generously gave me the four-poster room this time, which overlooks Knowleston Gardens, a cool, green oasis that sits under a rocky outcrop – given the exceptionally hot weather whilst I was there this was the ideal place to quietly sit and cool off. The bed also has a view to St Giles Church tower. This jewel of a guest house is all that it promises and some. The hosts are gracious, sensitive, and generous with their hospitality, which makes it very special. If you plan to visit this area, take in an opera at Buxton (which I was lucky enough to do), then include a two-night or more stay at The Glendon to complete the joy this landscape, scenery and attractions have to offer, Excellent value on every level.
