The ICC Cricket World Cup
The ICC Cricket World Cup is the international championship of One Day International (ODI) cricket. The event is organised by the sport’s governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC), every four years, with preliminary qualification rounds leading up to a final’s tournament. The tournament is one of the world’s most viewed sporting events and is considered the “flagship event of the international cricket calendar” by the ICC.
This year the Cricket World Cup will be held in England and Wales from 30th May culminating with the final on Sunday 14th July at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. The first world cup was hosted in England in 1975 and it has been hosted on four occasions in England and wales, with the last in 1999. This year England and Wales host the world cup for the fifth time. Although England has hosted the world cup on more occasions than any other country it has never won the tournament. Australia has won on five previous occasions.
There will be 10 teams competing. The matches will be hosted in 11 different venues. From Durham in the north to Southampton in the south.
Here’s looking forward to another great tournament. And if you’re venturing to some matches near Derbyshire and looking for somewhere to stay it would be great to welcome you to Glendon.
